WeldVision XR

Inspiration WeldVision XR was inspired by real-world experience in industrial welding, construction, and LNG facilities. Welding is a highly skilled profession where proper training, precision, and safety are essential.

Traditional welding training requires expensive equipment, materials, and dedicated training facilities. We envisioned a more accessible way for students and professionals to practice important skills before entering a real welding environment.

What it does WeldVision XR is an interactive welding education platform designed to evolve into an immersive virtual reality training experience. The project aims to help users: •Learn welding safety procedures and hazard intensification. •Practice decision-making for welding positions such as 2G,3G,4G, and 6. •Explore industrial pipe welding and equipment inspection. •Understand welding processes such as SMAW,GTAW, and GMAW. •Receive interactive feedback and performance scores. •Prepare for realistic industrial maintenance and construction scenarios. How we built it The initial prototype is a browser-based interactive training application built with HTML,CSS, and JavaScript. It introduces scenario-based welding education, safety questions, simulated pipe-joint training, and performance scoring. The next development phase will focus on 3D environments, interactive welding tools,and Meta Quest VR compatibility. Challenges we faced One of the biggest challenges is translating real industrial welding procedures into realistic digital training experiences. Welding involves many variables, including joint preparation, welding positions, electrode selection, equipment, settings, and safety requirements. Creating a simulation that is both technically meaningful and accessible to beginners requires careful design and testing. Accomplishments that we’re proud of We have established concept for WeldVision XR and developed an initial interactive training prototype. The project combines practical industrial welding knowledge with software development to explore a more accessible approach to technical education. What we learned Developing WeldVision XR highlights the importance of combining hands-on trade experience with interactive learning technology. We are exploring how virtual environments can help users recognize hazards, confidence before practical training. What’s next for WeldVision XR Our development roadmap includes: •Realistic 3D industrial welding workshop. •Meta Quest virtual reality support. • Interactive welding torches and equipment. • Virtual pipe welding simulations. •Welding quality assessment and performance feedback. •AI-assisted training recommendations. •Expanded training modules for industrial construction and LNG facilities. Our long-term vision is to make WeldVision XR a useful training platform for welding schools, industrial contractors,and skilled trades professionals.
