When getting started with OSU for the first time, it is quite challenging. It's not an easy process, and we wanted to make a website that gathers all the important topics for getting started in 1 place, making it a comforting experience for new and transfer students coming to OSU.

What it does

It's a website that makes it easier for new and transfer students to transition to the OSU environment. It contains all the important things for getting started at OSU and condenses all essential information into a single organized web app. It will include an introduction to the pace/style of schooling at OSU, how to apply for the OSU scholarship, food options, residence, guidance/tutoring options, and health/wellness options.

How I built it

It is built with Adobe XD, React, Nginx, Docker, Elastic Beanstalk (EC2, AutoScaling, LoadBalancer), and Cloudfront.

Challenges I ran into

We didn't have much familiarity with working on multipage websites, and so this was our first attempt at it. We struggled with learning all the HTML/CSS syntax, and understanding how everything worked at first. We also found it difficult to make the website responsive.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

What I learned

The main goal out of this was that we learned a lot about website designing. We developed a prototype website from a developer standpoint and turned into a full-fledged production website.

What's next for Welcome to OSU

We'll work more on making the website responsive, so that it looks good on all screen sizes, including mobile. We could make our website work on other browsing softwares liked Edge, Safari, Firefox, etc.

Thanks for checking out our project. Unfortunately, since the competition is over, I've decided to take down the website, but feel free to check out our Github repo to see how the project was made.
