Inspiration

I embarked on the journey of creating the CNC Metal Piece Weight Calculator driven by a personal motivation and a desire to provide a practical solution to a real-world problem. The inspiration behind this project was rooted in the challenges faced by my boyfriend, who works as a CNC programmer. He often encountered the need to accurately calculate the weight of metal pieces for various machining processes. This task was crucial in determining factors such as material selection, tooling requirements, and machining parameters.

What it does

This application is designed to help heavy industry engineers calculate the weight of metal workpieces.

How I built it

To bring the CNC Metal Piece Weight Calculator to life, I employed a variety of tools and technologies. The project was built as a web application, leveraging the Flask framework for its backend functionality. SQLite was chosen as the database management system to store vital material information and historical calculations. The frontend was designed using Jinja templating and Bootstrap, resulting in an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

What we learned

Throughout the development of this project, I gained a deeper understanding of both the technical and practical aspects of machining and material science. I delved into the nuances of different materials and their densities, as well as the significance of precise measurements and geometric forms. Converting units between millimeters and inches, as well as kilograms and pounds, proved to be a complex challenge. However, through this process, I not only enhanced my coding skills but also sharpened my analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

What's next for Weight-calculator

The experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of technology to address real-world challenges and inspired me to continue exploring innovative solutions in the intersection of engineering and software development. Therefore, I am in the process of deploying this application on my virtual machines (VMs) to make it accessible to a wider audience.
