Inspiration

A trip to the ER. Blood pressure 198 / 130. why ? The doctor asked me, “Your body is full of caffeine and barely any water. You don’t drink much water, do you?” true. sometimes I drink no water for 2 days. nothing but coffee.

I needed to change that. so i tried setting reminders but it was too annoying, all I wanted was to be reminder to drink water every 45 minutes between 9am and 11pm.

Then I wanted to remember to stand and stretch every 50 minutes between 9-6, only on workdays.

These were simple reminders I could explain in one sentence, but I still couldn’t find a quick and easy way to set them exactly how I wanted. Every app has menus and drop downs and too many choices it made me delete the entire app instead of setting a reminder. Thats when I decided to build it myself.

'Wehem' means : to repeat, in Ancient Egyptian language. which I found to be the perfect fit for the app.

What it does

Wehem lets you create the kind of recurring reminders that are usually annoying to set up. in seconds.

Every 45 minutes between certain hours. Every hour on weekdays. Every 10 minutes for the next 2 hours. Or at specific times each day. Instead of digging through settings, Wehem walks you through a simple composer where you choose what you want to remember, how often, which days, when it should be active and when it should end.

I also wanted Wehem to feel different from most reminder and productivity apps. I’ve never been a fan of all the bright colors, cards and things competing for attention. I wanted something simpler and quieter, with a classic, elegant feel. That’s where the black interface, brass pendulum and minimal design came from. watching it swing feels like being at a museum.

A quick introduction to Wehem, watch this: https://vimeo.com/1232119784?fl=tl&fe=ec

How we built it

I built Wehem natively for iPhone using Swift and SwiftUI, with local notifications handling the reminders and RevenueCat handling subscriptions.

I designed and built the app myself, using AI tools throughout the process to help with coding, testing and iteration. Most of the work went into making very specific reminder schedules feel simple to create and manage.

Challenges we ran into

I’m not a software engineer, so one of the biggest challenges was turning the app I had in my head into something that actually worked and looked the way I imagined.

I built it with the help of AI tools, which meant a lot of describing exactly what I wanted, seeing the result, figuring out what was wrong, and trying again. Sometimes over and over. The hardest part was getting the little details in the design and logic to work how I had it in my mind.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m most proud that Wehem solved the problem I originally built it for, and that it didn’t stop with me. Family and friends started using it too, especially people with ADHD who rely a lot on reminders. Seeing them use something I built every day to solve a problem they already had has probably been the most rewarding part.

I'm also proud of getting the design's details and logic to be how I had it in my mind despite having no software building or design experience.

What we learned

I learned that sometimes the best ideas come from solving your own problems instead of searching for something random to build. If something genuinely bothers you, there’s a good chance you’re not the only person dealing with it.

I also learned how much mental load comes from constantly trying to remember things. Being able to set something once, stop thinking about it and know you’ll be reminded when you need to be can genuinely make everyday life feel a little less stressful.

What's next for Wehem

  • Tons of marketing.
  • User feedback. feedback will be the best way to decide what to improve to make the app as useful as possible.

For the judges

Wehem has a subscription paywall. Free access for judges: On the Wehem paywall, tap “Have a discount code?” and enter 'GIFT00' to unlock the app for free.
