Inspiration
Growing up as a student in an isolated community in the heart of the Amazon jungle, where education and resources are vital, the profound impact of the global digital divide was always a serious challenge in Davi's childhood. Shockingly, two-thirds of the world's school-age children, around 1.3 billion individuals aged 3 to 17, lack internet access at home. This stark reality is not just a digital gap; it's a digital canyon that impedes the ability of children and young people to compete in the modern economy, isolating them from the world. This inequality is escalating as many evolutionary AI technologies are only distributed through the internet, setting remote students at a severe disadvantage in innovation, opportunity, and knowledge. Weeg’s mission is to use technology for all. We use creative problem-solving to bridge the gap between the world with advanced education and the world without any.
Solution
Our solution consists of two components: the Mesh Network and The Hive. The Mesh Network is a distributed local IoT network that allows students without internet access to our AI educational platform—The Hive. Through its AI capabilities, our ecosystem enables students to access classroom-related content (such as homework assistance, research, and library) and extracurricular courses. Our ecosystem also allows institutions to customize the platform to match their educational goals, as well as cultural/language nuances.
The Worker devices serve as the building blocks of the Weeg Mesh Network. At the core is an intelligent infrastructure, acting as access points to create local Wi-Fi networks. Workers connect autonomously with each other, ensuring that our educational platform reaches every corner. Communication between Workers is facilitated by powerful 2.5GHz antennas and LoRaWAN® network protocol, seamlessly extending the Workers' reach up to 1 km of range. With its solar-powered design and low power consumption, we ensure autonomy, minimizing logistical challenges and enabling system installation in a matter of hours.
The network created by the Workers directly connects to a central Gateway, ideally placed in an educational institution. The Gateways are connected to the internet via cable or satellite infrastructure, providing the network with its contents and storing data. Once the network is installed, we provide a management platform that enables selected institutions and us to monitor the entire Weeg system, ensuring seamless operation and facilitating updates on its contents and firmware. With Azure IoT middleware, we can manage all Worker devices, providing a reliable and scalable infrastructure.
Nestled within this ecosystem is The Hive—an intuitive and human-like AI-powered educational platform. The Hive is meticulously designed as an AI Tutor, personalized to align with specific school curriculums and local requirements. Prioritizing cultural sensitivity, The Hive considers local languages, cultural nuances, and unique educational challenges each community faces. Empowered by Google AI, we integrate advanced language models, such as Gemini 1.5 Pro, providing a more human-like and personalized interaction with students. We are ready to collaborate and deliver AI training on culture and location-specific materials for existing solutions. The Hive thus becomes a nurturing space where students can excel in their education through a seamless blend of advanced technology and personalized learning.
