Inspiration

We wanted to capture that moment every anime fan knows — when you hear a single line and instantly know who said it, what episode it’s from, and why it still gives you chills. We thought: what if we turned that feeling into a game? Something fast, social, and replayable — a mix of Wordle, anime trivia, and Reddit community chaos.

That’s how WeebWords was born: a playful world where anime fans test their memory, compete, and laugh through clever word puzzles inspired by their favorite shows.

What it does

WeebWords challenges players to complete iconic anime quotes, match emojis to emotions, or guess which character said a line — directly inside Reddit interactive posts.

Each day, the game generates new anime-themed puzzles with AI. Players drag, tap, and react while the app tracks their score and displays pixel-art celebrations when they win. It’s a mix of nostalgia, creativity, and friendly competition — wrapped in a few seconds of pure otaku joy.

How we built it

🧠 AI-powered daily generator: Every day, our Kiro backend fetches fresh, safe anime quotes (no spoilers!) and transforms them into interactive challenges.

🎴 Multiple puzzle types: Quote Fill – drag word tiles to complete famous lines Emoji Sensei – replace missing words with the right emojis Who Said It – guess the speaker Who Am I – characters describe themselves in riddles Mood Match – choose the emoji that captures the scene’s emotion 🕹️ Pixel Reactions: Correct answers trigger fun 8-bit animations — Tanjiro cheering, Gojo smirking, or Naruto celebrating your victory. 🏆 Leaderboards: Each anime has its own ranking. Players earn badges like Emoji Master, Quote Slayer, or Character Whisperer.

Challenges we ran into

  • Teaching the AI to generate valid JSON puzzles without spoiling anime plots.
  • Making semantic emoji matches feel “fair” across different contexts.
  • Optimizing pixel animations to stay crisp inside Reddit’s rendering sandbox.
  • Designing a leaderboard that works globally while grouping results per anime and puzzle type.
  • Every challenge pushed us to find a balance between tech precision and fan creativity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully playable anime puzzle platform that works natively on Reddit — no external website needed. The AI generator can keep the game fresh forever, producing hundreds of new quotes automatically. We made learning and competing feel genuinely fun and social, powered by nostalgia and humor. Our pixel art and character reactions give it a distinct, warm, handmade feel that players love

Why it matters

Anime connects people through shared emotions and stories — WeebWords transforms that connection into a fun, social experience. It’s not just trivia; it’s a celebration of how deeply these worlds live in us. Every correct answer feels like reliving a memory, every mistake ends in laughter, and every day brings a new reason to come back.

What's next for weebwords_dev

Add voice lines and sound effects for correct answers. ⚔️ Introduce clan vs clan events (e.g. Naruto vs One Piece week). 🌍 Translate into other languages — Japanese, Spanish, and French first. 🎙️ Voice & sound effects — each correct answer will trigger the actual voice line or a themed anime sound cue, adding excitement and authenticity to the moment. 🧍‍♂️ Animated characters — characters will soon appear with smooth, fluid animations, reacting in real time to your answers. Whether it’s Gojo’s smug grin or Tanjiro’s shock, every emotion will feel alive. ⚔️ Clan battles and events — players will be able to represent their favorite anime in weekly challenges (Naruto vs One Piece, anyone?) Our goal: make WeebWords the go-to daily ritual for anime fans worldwide.
