Inspiration

I was inspired by the Spotle.io game which is a daily music wordle game. It was fascinating to me how the developers were able to successfully combine something that is culturally relevant in a wordle style game. Particularly so because with non-word based wordle games, there is a persistent issue of reaching casual fans.

What it does

Weeble is a daily anime wordle game where users have 10 attempts to guess the daily anime tv show. Players are also able to generate hints using generative ai to make the game easier.

How we built it

We used gemini 3 image api (gemini-3-pro-image-preview) to generate a series of icons that represent anime shows. We built our web app using expo, supabase, nodejs, and digital ocean.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge I ran into was that it is nearly impossible for fans to guess the daily anime if they simply haven't seen the show or heard of the show. Gemini (gemini-3-pro-image-preview) was crucial for getting around this. Through the use of advanced image generation users are able to turn the game in to a linguistic picture challenge (similar to pictionary) where they can guess the title based on an ai generation that is a literal depiction of the title. For example, the title "Naruto" would be used as a prompt to generate a picture of the Japanese fish cake.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to amass 90 unique users in our first month!

What we learned

We learned that the biggest barrier to entry is not building the product but marketing it. Although there are still improvements to be made regarding the gameplay. The question of how to reach our target audience is still a problem to be solved.

What's next for Weeble

The next step for Weeble is to create a signup flow so we can begin to reach out to our users and ask them about ways we can improve the game. We are also in the process of creating a reddit devvit game to bring Weeble directly to anime fans.
