Inspiration

In today's era of vibe coding, where we can build products incredibly fast, I realized that profitability now depends heavily on marketing prowess. To succeed, you need services that generate word-of-mouth and viral growth, bringing in massive user bases organically. I was inspired by Pieter Levels' approach to building viral, community-driven products that spread naturally through user engagement and social sharing.

What it does

WeDraw is a real-time collaborative pixel art platform where thousands of artists worldwide create masterpieces together, one pixel at a time. Users select colors and place pixels on shared canvases with weekly themes, experiencing a 1-minute cooldown between placements that encourages thoughtful collaboration. The platform features live stats, time-lapse recordings, completed artwork galleries, leaderboards, and user profiles - creating an addictive social experience around collective creativity.

How we built it

Built with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, powered by Supabase for real-time database synchronization and user management. The architecture handles thousands of concurrent users placing pixels simultaneously, with live updates, cooldown systems, and comprehensive analytics. We implemented theme management, user profiles, leaderboards, and a complete gallery system for showcasing completed collaborative artworks.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was designing for maximum user adoption and viral growth. We had to create a service compelling enough that people would naturally want to share it and invite friends. Balancing simplicity for immediate engagement while providing depth for long-term retention was crucial. We also built a production-ready service in just 30 minutes of core development time, proving the power of modern development tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a fully functional, production-ready collaborative platform that demonstrates the potential for viral community-driven products. The real-time synchronization works flawlessly, the user experience is polished and engaging, and the viral mechanics are built into the core gameplay loop. Most importantly, we proved that with modern tools, you can rapidly build and deploy services that have genuine market potential.

What we learned

This project reinforced that we're entering a truly transformative AI era. With vibe coding capabilities, there will be an explosion of new services and products. The differentiating factors going forward will be human intuition, marketing ability, and understanding what makes people want to share and engage. Technical execution is becoming commoditized - success will depend on human insight and viral mechanics.

What's next for wedraw

We plan to continue operating and growing this service. The foundation is solid for scaling to millions of users, and the viral mechanics are proven. Next steps include mobile apps, advanced collaboration tools, NFT integration for completed artworks, and partnerships with art communities. WeDraw has the potential to become the go-to platform for collaborative digital art creation worldwide.
