Friend/Colleagues idea to help tackle the loss of jobs when the lockdown is over.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic some industries were hit harder than others such as leisure, hospitality and tourism industries. When lockdown is over there is likely to be a lot of people looking for work, and hopefully employers seeking employees.
While job posting sites exist, these can have long winded account creations where users need to upload their cv, and even then a job posting could make this all for nothing as they want applicants to submit their details in their own format. This can be a long process that when repeated over and over is tiresome for applicants.
Equally for employers, alot of the existing sites require pay to post which some smaller companies may not be in the position to do due to a lack on income during this period. By offering a free service we could help get any country using this service back on its feet a bit quicker.
The concept is for companies to post jobs that will remain on the server and searchable for 7 days. Workers can search by location or skill to find work quickly and without the fuss of unnecessary account creation.
If this can be live before lockdown ends then the site can equally be used for much needed workers (paid or voluntary) in key industries.
The problem your project solves It helps to solve unemployment after the lockdown for industries harder hit.
The solution you bring to the table (including technical details, architecture, tools used) A free to use website that is simply a database of job postings that a user can search through to help get back on their feet following the crisis. The idea is for this to be a simple job posting forum that doesn't require user accounts or holding personal details.
What you have done during the weekend The site has been slowly fleshed out over the last month or so by myself at the start of the crisis. Over the weekend we implemented some much needed additions for keeping the database in check and filtering out unwanted posts.
The solution’s impact to the crisis Other solutions like this do exist. to name a couple, Indeed or Monster are very well established in this field. This however is a lighterweight version and as such has much less cost implications when it comes to database size or complexity. Therefore cheaper to host in the initial stages.
The necessities in order to continue the project Web hosting. Scaling it for more demand should the need arise might need require dedicated servers but currently since its self funded its on the cheapest plan I can afford.
The value of your solution(s) after the crisis After the crisis this has potential value to smaller businesses who dont want to spend a fortune on advertising for jobs, but more importantly its simplicity would appeal more to some industries that don't need overly skilled workers. This isn't a dig at these kinds of workers I'd like to think tomato pickers are valued as much as anyone else, but lets face it. Why would a farmer care what degrees you may have or your employment history. They probably wouldn't if they just need someone seasonal to pick veg in a field. Why complicate things and make a process daunting for the end users. Some industries dont need to pay good money for matching AI algorithms to help them find employees. They just need people who can work
