Inspiration
Our inspiration began with the incredible mission of the Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona (NMT-SAZ). This organization does life-changing work, using evidence-based music therapy to help individuals with neurologic impairments communicate, move, and heal.
As part of the Opportunity Hack, we were driven by the desire to use our technical skills to support a cause that makes a tangible impact in our community. We saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between their powerful, in-person therapy and their digital presence. Our goal was to create a website that not only serves as a resource but also reflects the hope, compassion, and professionalism of their work, making their services more accessible to those who need them most.
What it does
We have completely redesigned the NMT-SAZ website from the ground up to serve its two primary audiences: potential clients and their families, and the community of supporters and donors.
The new website:
Clarifies the Path to Care: It provides a clear, empathetic, and easy-to-navigate journey for families seeking information on services. We simplified the language and created a prominent and straightforward contact/consultation form.
Amplifies Impact Stories: It brings the powerful testimonials and success stories of their clients to the forefront, creating an immediate emotional connection for visitors and showcasing the real-world impact of the therapy.
Streamlines the Donation Process: We built a simple, secure, and transparent donation system. This makes it easier for supporters to contribute to the mission and understand how their contributions help.
Establishes a Professional Digital Home: The site now has a modern, trustworthy, and accessible design that builds confidence and reflects the high quality of care the NGO provides.
How we built it
We built it on Base44 (no-code) with reusable components, a clean CMS, and a token-based design system. Integrations include secure donations, HIPAA-minded forms, and multilingual routing. It’s mobile-first, WCAG-aligned, SEO/Schema optimized, lazy-loaded for performance, and instrumented with analytics—so editors can publish fast and measure impact.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge was effectively translating the profound, emotional nature of neurologic music therapy into a digital format. We wanted to convey warmth and empathy while maintaining a professional and informative structure. It required a delicate balance in design, color choice, and language.
Additionally, working within the tight timeline of the hackathon, we had to prioritize features that would deliver the most immediate value to the NGO and its users, such as the client intake process and the donation flow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We shipped a full merchandise storefront with inventory-ready product templates and secure checkout, added accessible font-size controls (A/A/A) across the site, and integrated a unified payment portal for donations, event fees, and recurring “Friends of NMTSA” gifts. We also launched a multi-language experience (with Spanish live and a framework for additional locales), keeping navigation, SEO, and structured content consistent across languages. All of this sits on a no-code CMS, so staff can update products, pages, and translations without developers.
What we learned
This project was a masterclass in empathy-driven design. We learned how to put ourselves in the shoes of users who may be navigating stressful life circumstances and design a digital experience that reduces friction and provides clear answers.
We also learned the importance of clear communication with non-technical stakeholders to ensure our technical solutions align perfectly with the organization's real-world mission. On a technical level, we honed our skills in rapid prototyping and efficient development under a deadline.
