📖 Project Story – WebShield AI 🔹 About the Project

WebShield AI is Chrome’s built-in guardian that protects users in real time. It scans webpages, links, and downloads for scams, phishing, and malicious AI-generated content. With proactive alerts and human-friendly explanations, it makes browsing safer for billions without compromising speed or freedom.

🔹 Inspiration

The rise of AI-powered cyber threats inspired this project. Phishing pages and deepfake content are becoming harder to detect manually, and misinformation spreads faster than fact-checkers can respond. Since Chrome powers the majority of web experiences, we envisioned a solution that could provide trust at browser scale.

🔹 What We Learned

We discovered how to:

Apply NLP + vision models to detect malicious intent and fake content.

Optimize AI models for real-time inference inside Chrome.

Translate complex AI outputs into clear, actionable guidance for everyday users.

We learned that effective security isn’t just about detection—it’s about empowering informed choices.

Data: Curated phishing, scam, and AI-generated datasets.

AI Models: Trained lightweight NLP + vision models for real-time detection.

Integration: Used Chrome Extensions API and Safe Browsing API for seamless scanning.

User Experience: Designed minimal, non-intrusive alerts with contextual explanations.
