Inspiration
During 2020, all the world was brought to a standstill by the coronavirus. Seeing all the suffering around us and the seemingly endless problems brought on by a pandemic, we all felt the need to step in and do what we could to rise through this together.
What it does
WeBreathe is a mobile, affordable, user-friendly, community-based and AI/IoT-powered deep-breathing exercise device and platform, which provides an immersive, fun and relaxing breathing exercise experience.
How I built it
We married our passion for snorkelling and clinical medicine to overcome their individual shortcomings and thought of providing an innovative and immersive approach to solving one of healthcare’s biggest problems - lack of commitment to therapy. With our diverse experiences, we re-iterated the solution till we arrived at the best possible solution. We will use air volume sensor, sending data via bluetooth, sending data to a dedicated mobile application, and the virtual reality headset.
Challenges I ran into
We found it challenging to access funding and had a few challenges with product design. We also contacted an incubator facility but found it challenging to work there as we're all from different parts of the world.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We've managed to put together a multidisciplinary and diverse team, with complementary skillsets and an equal passion to solve the problem. We're united in our approach and have already completed a detailed market survey and received positive and encouraging responses.
What I learned
We learned the value of teamwork, and time management in developing a new idea. We realised the importance of diversity and effective communication while working on this project, and learned that help could come from any source if we have the hunger to learn.
What's next for WeBreathe
We're moving forward with the next step of early prototype validation and plan to complete customer validation soon after that, followed by trials.
