Inspiration

My inspiration came from a desire to learn, explore, and understand how WebMCP could be applied to a real-world project.

While building GodreryTone Jewellery as a Shopify store, I was already thinking about how technology could make the customer experience more personalized and easier to navigate. Discovering WebMCP gave me an opportunity to explore those ideas in a practical environment rather than building only a theoretical demonstration.

What it does

This project adds a WebMCP-powered interaction layer to the real GodreryTone Jewellery Shopify storefront.

It allows an AI agent to work with structured shopping capabilities such as:

  • Customer intent
  • Occasion
  • Style
  • Recipient
  • Regional context
  • Budget and currency
  • Product discovery
  • Pricing
  • Shipping eligibility
  • Customer decisions
  • Final product routing

The goal is to help customers move from naturally describing what they want to finding relevant products in the actual Shopify store.

How we built it

We built the project by integrating WebMCP into the existing GodreryTone Jewellery Shopify storefront and exposing specialized tools for different parts of the shopping journey.

The implementation connects the customer's natural-language request with the store's existing commerce data and logic.

It also incorporates:

  • Market-aware product availability
  • Budget and currency handling
  • Pricing considerations
  • Shipping eligibility
  • Direct routing to Shopify product pages

The project was developed around the principle that:

Shopify remains the commerce platform while WebMCP provides an additional AI-agent interaction layer.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was working with the realities of a developing Shopify store rather than a simplified demonstration environment.

Product availability can depend on the customer's country and supplier capabilities. Different markets can have different product availability, while the current Shopify subscription also creates limitations around currency handling.

Another challenge was ensuring that the AI experience does not make assumptions on behalf of the customer, particularly when regional alternatives, availability, pricing, or shipping need to be considered.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that the project moved beyond a theoretical WebMCP implementation and was applied to a real Shopify jewellery storefront with real products and real commerce considerations.

We created a set of specialized WebMCP tools that work together as part of a broader customer journey rather than functioning as isolated features.

We are also proud of demonstrating how a customer can express a complex shopping request naturally and how that request can be connected to structured store capabilities and ultimately to the real Shopify shopping experience.

What we learned

This project taught us that building an AI-powered shopping experience is not simply about adding an AI interface.

We learned the importance of understanding the underlying:

  • Business rules
  • Product availability
  • Regional differences
  • Currency
  • Pricing
  • Shipping
  • Customer control

before an agent can provide a genuinely useful recommendation.

Most importantly, I learned how WebMCP can turn existing web functionality into structured capabilities that an AI agent can use to help customers interact with a real business.

What's next for WebMCP-Project-GodreryToneShopify-Storefront-Testing-Project

The next step is to continue developing GodreryTone Jewellery into a fully functional online store while expanding the WebMCP experience alongside it.

Future improvements can include:

  • Deeper market-aware shopping
  • Stronger supplier and availability intelligence
  • Improved currency infrastructure as the Shopify environment evolves
  • Richer personalization
  • Broader customer-shopping scenarios

The longer-term goal is to make it possible for a customer to simply describe:

what they want, who it is for, where they are, and what they can spend

and have the store intelligently help them discover what they can actually buy.
