Inspiration

Training proposals and accountability reports often involve multiple steps, from submitting proposals and reviewing information to documenting the results of completed training activities. Managing these processes manually can make information difficult to organize, track, and retrieve.

We wanted to build a centralized web-based system that could make the training proposal and accountability process more structured, while reducing repetitive administrative work and improving data organization.

What it does

The application provides a centralized platform for managing training proposals and accountability reports.

It supports users throughout the process of submitting and managing training-related information, while helping administrators organize and monitor the submitted data through a structured web interface.

The system also uses validated forms and authentication to help maintain data consistency and control access to the application.

How I built it

The application was developed from scratch using fundamental web technologies without relying on a web framework.

Technology stack:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • PHP
  • MySQL

I worked as the Lead Web Developer, contributing to both the front-end and back-end development. My responsibilities included designing and implementing the user interface, developing server-side logic with PHP, implementing authentication, connecting the application to the MySQL database, and creating validated forms for accurate data entry.

The development process involved system design, implementation, testing, and iterative improvements based on the team's requirements.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges was building the application without a web framework. This required us to handle many aspects of the application directly, including authentication, form validation, database interactions, and server-side logic.

Maintaining consistency between the front-end, back-end, and database was another challenge, especially as the number of features and data requirements increased.

These challenges required careful planning of the application structure and continuous testing to ensure that the different parts of the system worked together correctly.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud that we were able to build a functional web-based management system from scratch using core web technologies.

As the Lead Web Developer, I was able to contribute across the entire development process rather than focusing only on one layer of the application. This included front-end development, back-end logic, authentication, database integration, and form validation.

The project also gave our team practical experience in turning a real workflow into a structured software solution.

What I learned

This project strengthened my understanding of full-stack web development and showed me the importance of designing a system around the actual workflow it needs to support.

I also learned more about handling authentication, validating user input, structuring database interactions, and connecting front-end interfaces with server-side logic.

Most importantly, building without a framework helped me understand the fundamentals behind web applications instead of relying on abstractions provided by a framework.

What's next for Web Based Training Proposal & Accountability App

The next step would be to further improve the application's usability and workflow automation.

Potential improvements include better reporting and analytics, more advanced notification features, improved document management, and a more refined user experience.

The long-term goal is to evolve the application into a more complete training management platform that can support the entire lifecycle of training proposals and accountability reporting.
