Inspiration
Reddit is at its best when a whole community shows up for the same small ritual every day. We wanted to build something that earns a daily visit not through streaks-as-a-chore, but through a genuinely satisfying "aha", the feeling you get when a logic puzzle finally clicks. Domino placement puzzles have a beautiful property: dead-simple rules, surprisingly deep deduction. That felt like the right seed for a game that lives inside a Reddit post and gives people a reason to come back tomorrow.
What it does
WeaveGrid is a daily domino logic puzzle that plays entirely inside a Reddit interactive post. Each day, a fresh grid appears divided into regions, each with a rule that must be satisfied. You place dominoes to satisfy every region, and part of the challenge is realizing that some tiles are extras you must deliberately leave behind. One tap on the post opens the board; there's nothing to install, and a new puzzle drops every day.
How we built it
WeaveGrid is built on Reddit's Devvit Web platform. The interactive board is rendered with Phaser, which handles the grid, domino placement, drag/tap input, and validation feedback. The splash preview (the branded diamond-motif screen judges see first in the feed) is a lightweight themed HTML/CSS/TS entry that hands off to the full Phaser game on Play. A Devvit server handles post creation and daily puzzle content, and an app-install trigger auto-creates the daily post in the community.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making a Phaser board feel crisp and correct across Reddit's post viewport on both desktop and mobile. Getting scaling right without breaking pointer coordinates took several iterations. An early device-pixel approach broke input mapping and shrank the board, so we settled on a responsive resize strategy that keeps touch and mouse coordinates accurate. Fitting a real game cleanly inside the post viewport, with a splash that reads instantly in the feed, was its own design problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We shipped a concept-complete, polished daily puzzle that plays in one tap, with a distinct visual identity (the pastel diamond motif carried from splash to board) rather than a generic template look. It's genuinely playable on mobile, and the daily-post loop is live in a real public community.
What we learned
We learned how to shape a game specifically for the Reddit feed: the splash preview is the real first impression, the "hook" is retention rather than any literal theme, and a daily cadence turns a one-time click into a habit. We also got hands-on with the Devvit Web plus Phaser stack: post lifecycle, triggers, and rendering an interactive canvas inside an interactive post.
What's next for WeaveGrid
Next we want to lean harder into the community loop: comment-based hints and discussion on each day's puzzle, shareable results and streaks to drive daily returns, difficulty progression, and eventually player-submitted puzzles so the community generates its own content, turning WeaveGrid from a daily solve into a daily gathering.
