Inspiration
Living in Texas I almost never get my outfit right. I leave the house in sweater and pants but by the time I come home I am sweating and utterly regretful of my initial early morning decision. I wanted to make a website that would display what the weather was going to be like throughout the day, an accurate representation of what your day was going to actually look like. Initially, I wanted my website to tell you "It is a tad chilly right now but later it going to be in the upper 90's so dress light but bring a jacket for right now". I really wanted this app to be location specific to assure the user's full satisfaction. In Norway there is a saying- "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad preparation."
What it does
For right now, the website just reaches basics levels of weather broadcast. I had dreams of making the background image of the live radar of the city of which the user is in and display a forecast of an outfit of what the user can/should wear. I was also thinking of adding a database that would keep the items of clothing the user can upload and the website would sort through the articles and give options of what would be great outfit that day.
How we built it
I built this by using html for overall website and then for styling I used css and then for the logic and uploading the weather data from open weather API I used javascript.
Challenges we ran into
I was not able to take it as far as I wish I could have in terms of adding all of the features that I thought would make this a different website but was able to get the basic functionality. Some other issues I ran into was deciding what API I wanted to use. Initially I was just going to go with the NASA api because the access was almost instantaneous and give out information on activities to do that day based on the solar flare activity and other astronomical activities going on that tend to carry over affects to earth and affect us. But I figured this would be a tad easier and ended up only having to wait 30 minutes or so for access to the open weather API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of the idea and intentions behind my project because it was to better the human life experience and make people be more prepared for what their day would have in store for them. Most days I expect to not spend too much time outside but there are always those anomalies where something does happen and end up having to spend more time than I thought outside.
What we learned
This was actually my first time making a website that was not for a class assignment and working with public APIs. Knowing how easy and simple it is to create a personalized website makes me want to experiment more with them. Working solo also gave me a lot of creativity ideas which had its perks and its downfalls. I was glad I was able to focus it onto one subject I think that was one of my bigger challenges not having the suggestive hand from group members and not having guidance in terms of like assignment requirements but it was really nice to let my ideas run free.
What's next for Weather to wear it
I think I would still really like to turn Weather to wear it into something that is more astronomical based as well as more personalized to the user.
