Weather Scout: IoT & NFTs to Inspire Climate Awareness

## Inspiration In Puerto Rico we are constantly bashed with harsh weather conditions, on top of that we are suffering one of the biggesrt ‘brain drains’ in the history of the island. Professionals leave the island in order to look for opportunities elsewhere. It is up to us to use IoT, NFTs and other technologies to inspire the future of interest in STEAM and push Climate Resilience Awareness

What it does

It collects Temperature data from Noaa datasets It uploads the data to the Telos Blockchain It announces variations from median parameters It compares data set data with data collected from IoT device It allows for an institution to incentivize and empower individuals with the use of NFTS

How we built it

We used C++ to put the data set data on-chain (TELOS) Used C++ to compare the data with given parameters and data collected from the IoT sensor We used thirdweb to manage permissions on who can mint the nfts ( a central authority approves upon seeing the information) Used thirdweb to create a soulbound token that cannot be traded We used biconomy to have a realy so transactions are gassless Our artist created all assets from scratch using procreate

Challenges we ran into

Communication was a bit of an issue, but something that we could solve after understanding that it is in “hackathon spirit” to connect with people that we dont know and figure out a way to work together We tried to have an insurance payment contract that would automatically send payments when a certain parameter was reached The contract is ready, but we had some bugs so it was not presented today, but it will be ready after the hackathon

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Uploading data to the telos blockchain, this allows future hackers to use that data in their solutions Created a mapping that includes all of the current weather stations and the new IoT sensors We created a SOULBOUND NFT that cant be transferred or sold Our NFT solution uses a relay, so the end user does not need to pay for gas Everything is streamlined, anyone that has a wallet will be able to get their nft with just 3 click and no gas

What we learned

Teamworks makes the dream work, we come from very different backgrounds and we all excelled in our passion in order to make this project a reality Data is important, but having people that care about data and technology is also important, that is why INSPIRING people to participate in STEAM careers to push Climate Resiliency is so important If we INSPIRE, maybe we can keep more BRAINS on the island and TOGETHER become an example for the world

Create solutions that use blockchain in order to have insurance payouts Migrate the google form to a standalone form and server Display uploaded images on the mapping tool Use other types of sensors such as anemometers, rain gauges and soil moisture sensors to monitor real-time storm and flooding Empower individuals on the island by pushing the Climate Resiliency Passport in school curriculums Organize “Weather Derbys” to inspire people to do weather tourism and gather proactive data that can prevent disasters
