Inspiration
We were inspired by women who used the strategy of calling 911 under the guise that they were calling a pizza place, allowing for communication between operators and victims without the knowledge of aggressors.
What it does
The app has a variety of features such as being able to take photos from the front and back cameras, take videos from the front and back cameras as well as start an emergency call. On top of this, for more immediate threats, such as kidnapping, we also have a way to send exact latitude and longitude locational data to a secure number, such as to friends or family.
How we built it
We built it using Android studio and got the current weather data from Weather API. We made the pixel art with the help of Microsoft's copilot AI.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a few challenges with our original idea of also adding audio recording or google drive support, but the main challenge we ran into was time constraints, so we had to cut features to make time. We also had photo implementation, but we couldn't get it to work alongside video and video was more polished, so we decided to cut photo.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are especially proud of the invisible video taking, and fast calling, which can be way faster and more efficient than directly calling since it requires less clicks to get to and taking videos can be done safely and in time.
What we learned
We learned how to use android studio to make a high-functioning mobile app.
What's next for Weather Report
If we were given more time, we would add audio recording and google drive support while also deleting pictures so that the aggressor would have no evidence to suspect disobedience.
