Inspiration
As high school seniors about to enter our last year, we want to make strong, memorable, lasting impressions on the other kids around us. This not only means acting and looking our best but also dressing our best. We sought out to develop a solution and open the gates of fashion to everyone. Our goal was to make something that was not only fun, simple and easy to use but made fashion inexpensive and accessible to everyone.
What it does
Our website, DripFlip, is extremely easy and simple to use. Swipe right if you like something and left if you don't. Our groundbreaking software will determine your preferences and continue to narrow down your search for your "one true style". Once our algorithm determines your preference, it not only shows you the liked outfits, but uses AI to generate a "style profile" which it uses to create more outfit ideas suited just for you. Once you're ready to try the outfits, hop on over to our augmented reality fitting room, where you can try on different outfit ideas, without even leaving your room.
How we built it
We used Vue, HTML, CSS, JS for the front-end and for the backend we used Open-Ai, Flask, and Python. Additionally we processed hand movements so that users can try and swipe through different clothes with a TensorFlow model. The front-end would be where the user can select and move between different clothing options which gets sent to the back-end to adjust according clothing preferences and is later processed with GPT to give further clothing suggestions for the user.
Challenges we ran into
- Finding a way to calculate between similar clothing options
- Generating text descriptions for clothing
- Working with the TensorFlow Model
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a team, we are incredibly proud that we were able to use many of the different design processes effectively. This includes brainstorming and prototyping different ideas and designs. However, we are most proud of our use of human centric design; after interviewing numerous other hackers at our events, we learnt more about their problems and how our product could be used to solve them.
What we learned
Of course, not everything was smooth sailing for this team. We encountered numerous problems and put our technical as well as teamwork skills to the test. Weathering the storms, we learnt how to work together as a team to create unique solutions. As a famous NASA chemist once said, “we are like rocks, and only after bumping into one another do we become smoother”
