Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was the various we committed as students about our finances. Therefore, we want other users to learn from our experience and be better informed while making financial decisions about their future.
What it does
It's a financial literacy tool that helps users manage their budget by tracking their expenses as well as income, allowing them to make better-informed decisions for the future.
How we built it
For our back end, we utilized python flask along with MongoDB as our database. In order to authenticate the users' login credentials, we used Auth0. For our front end, we used HTML, Sass, and TypeScript.
Challenges we ran into
Collaborating across such a diverse tech stack that not all of us were familiar with proved to be quite challenging. Primarily linking up the front end with our database MongoDB Atlas was really challenging. We had to learn many new technologies, such as learning new APIs like Fetch, Ajax, Jquery and learning Jinja2, which is a template engine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For more than half of our team, this was their first hackathon, and being able to build a full-stack application with a pretty interface that we were happy with was an accomplishment. As a team we found it really fun and an enormous learning experience.
What we learned
As everyone in our team was familiar with different technologies, we collectively were able to learn new languages and frameworks such as Flask, Auth0, MongoDB, git, TypeScript, and Sass which was a great exposure for us.
What's next for WealthWise
For the future of WealthWise, we plan to integrate investment options for the user so they can better use their disposable income. We also plan to include article which teach users about financial literacy
