Inspiration

We are inspired to anonymously connect students with fellow classmates who would otherwise remain isolated from each other. We hope the idea of anonymity will allow users to explore and contribute without social pressures.

How it works

Users begin by navigating to a school-specific class page, ex: CU Boulder CSCI3104. This page contains a list of assignments for that class that have been added by fellow students. User can then select a specific assignment/topic to discuss through a focused real-time chat or receive help from posts selected and archived as helpful by the community.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into trouble implementing the real-time chat server. We examined a number of WebSocket and related technologies like the Faye framework but were ultimately unable to effectively make use of the tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of ourselves for choosing to learn Ruby on Rails, in which neither of us had any experience and putting together a well-designed, nearly-complete service. We are also proud of not using any pre-made UI frameworks like Bootstrap and instead hand styling our site.

What we learned

We learned about the lifecycle of a Rails App from inception to production and deployment. We also learned about effective methods for coordinating concurrent back-end and front-end development.

What's next for We So Classy

Our next step is to produce a working chat page to complete original vision to provide a new medium for scholarly expression and discourse.
