Inspiration

During difficult times like these, everyone is separated from each other, causing stress and anxiety. We do not have the ability to talk with our friends and rant about our everyday problems. Browsing through websites after websites, we noticed a lack of safe spaces where we can express ourselves freely and quickly.

What it does

We Are Not Really Alone is an online forum where users can post problems while viewing real-time conversations. Users can also reply to people's messages with supportive comments or advice.

How we built it

Using Repl.it, we installed React for the front-end and Firebase for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

For the first half of the hackathon, we jumped from a complex online forum, discord bot, an online game, and back to a simpler online forum. We were also unfamiliar with Firebase, which posed a MAJOR problem for the backend. For the frontend, we only had one team member experienced with UI/UX.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In just eight hours, we developed a functional online forum with real-time updates and conversations.

What we learned

We learnt React and Firebase! In addition, time-management is an essential component of hackathons, especially a 24-hour hackathon.

What's next for We're Not Alone

Developing a "reply" button to show a chain of replies and expanding more on UI/UX.
