Inspiration

With the elevated racism and race matters in the world right now, we wanted to speak to the issue in a different perspective. To avoid being too political and provide a more lighthearted experience, we came up with "we're all water, anyway". Water is something that everyone in the world interacts with. The earth is 71% water, our bodies are 60% water...we are all water. With all that's going on, we want to remind each other that we are all one. Because in the end...we're all water, anyway.

What it does

As the rain falls from the sky, it turns into puddles on the "ground". When users tap on the screen, our message appears on the ground from water ringlets that form.

How we built it

(1) Starting with typography design, we selected a typeface that reflects fluidity and water. Next, we modelled the text and water ringlet in Maya. (2) We used the particle emitter to simulate rain falling from the sky. (3) Animated the text and water ringlets. (4) Added a screen tap gesture that creates "puddles" where one word of the message appears with each ringlet.

Challenges we ran into

Coming from different disciplines of designer (Amy), animator (Niru) and programmer (Laith), we teamed together to build in Spark AR. However, with the three of us combined, we were either beginners or completely new to the program. Our challenge was figuring out the parameters in which we could create according to our vision.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning the software in such a short time and watching our idea come to life in Spark AR.

What we learned

We all got a feel of what Spark AR can do.

What's next for we're all water, anyway.

Our project was put together in one week's time. In the future, we hope to refine our skills and elevate the experience. Keep up with us: Amy - amywu.ca // Niru - instagram.com/niru67 // Laith - laith.wtf
