Inspiration
Voice AI is becoming remarkably good at conversation, but conversations alone do not complete business transactions.
A customer can tell an AI agent, “I want the Friday afternoon appointment,” but a real business still needs to determine availability, calculate the authoritative price, capture authorization, verify payment, commit the booking, and preserve an auditable record of what happened.
We built WAYXA to bridge that gap.
WAYXA is the transaction layer between probabilistic voice AI and deterministic business systems.
What it does
WAYXA turns a CALL-E phone conversation into a safe, auditable business transaction.
In our live demo, a customer requests a blind installation appointment by phone.
CALL-E handles the conversation and captures structured customer intent.
WAYXA then:
- Identifies the requested service.
- Generates the authoritative price.
- Checks deterministic availability.
- Temporarily reserves the appointment.
- Records explicit customer authorization.
- Creates a secure Stripe Checkout session.
- Independently verifies the payment with Stripe.
- Commits the appointment only after successful verification.
- Produces an auditable transaction outcome.
The key architectural principle is simple:
Conversation is probabilistic. Transaction state is deterministic.
CALL-E can interpret what the customer says, but the language model is never the source of truth for price, payment status, availability, or booking state.
How we built it
WAYXA is built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, CALL-E, and Stripe.
CALL-E provides the real voice interaction and structured conversation result.
WAYXA implements a deterministic transaction state machine that controls the business workflow:
CREATED → SERVICE_SELECTED → QUOTED → SLOT_HELD → CUSTOMER_AUTHORIZED → PAYMENT_PENDING → PAYMENT_APPROVED → BOOKING_COMMITTED → COMPLETED
Each transition is controlled by application logic rather than by the language model.
Stripe Checkout handles payment collection. A browser redirect from Stripe is intentionally not considered proof of payment. WAYXA independently verifies the payment with the provider before committing the booking.
This separation allows conversational AI to remain flexible while critical business actions remain deterministic and auditable.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was defining the boundary between conversational intelligence and transactional authority.
It is tempting to let an AI agent decide that a payment succeeded or that an appointment is confirmed based on the conversation. For a production transaction system, that is unsafe.
We instead designed WAYXA so that external systems remain authoritative for critical facts.
We also handled real-world integration challenges including asynchronous CALL-E call states, provider timeouts, idempotency, payment redirects, session restoration, deterministic scheduling across time zones, and safe recovery from failed operations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We completed a real end-to-end transaction using CALL-E and Stripe.
The live flow demonstrates:
Phone conversation → structured intent → deterministic quote → appointment hold → customer authorization → Stripe payment → independent payment verification → confirmed booking → completed transaction.
The final WAYXA interface provides a visible audit trail showing which steps were verified by the transaction engine.
What we learned
Voice agents become significantly more useful when they can safely cross the boundary from conversation into action.
The important insight for us was that this does not require making the AI itself authoritative.
Instead, the conversational agent can interpret intent while a deterministic transaction layer controls irreversible business operations.
What's next for WAYXA
The blind installation workflow is one example of a much broader architecture.
WAYXA can evolve into reusable infrastructure for voice-driven transactions such as field services, reservations, healthcare scheduling, logistics, commerce, and other workflows where a phone conversation needs to result in a verified real-world commitment.
