Inspiration

We wanted to tackle the issue of digitizing healthcare assistance by expediting the process of retrieving relevant information. This project was inspired by Baymax from Big Hero 6, who is a reliable healthcare robot that ventures with the main cast.

What it does

Ask Waymax anything related to your symptoms and it'll query Google to help find relevant articles. Additionally, you can speak to your doctor in our chatbox for more personalized information.

How we built it

We built the web app using React on the frontend and Node on the backend. We used Axios to create GET requests to the Google Custom Search JSON API to retrieve information and the Twillio API for the text messaging chatbox.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of figuring out how to leverage 2 separate APIs in the short amount of time during the hackathon!

What we learned

We learned how to effectively work together in a team and iterate upon code quickly and cleanly.

What's next for Waymax

We genuinely believe that this app has a lot potential for future growth. There were many different ways we believed we could have optimizez the health care process. For example, imagine you regularly take prescribed medicines. By supplying info to your doctor through this app, you could receive info about what doses you need. If we had more time, we could have implemented a feature that allows you to verify your eligibility for a prescribed medicine, pay for that medicine and then have it shipped to you. Another feature our app would have had, is the ability to track symptoms that you searched for in the past, and use that history to predict what illnesses you might be vulnerable to in the future. We strongly believed that this would have the potential to even save lives as it would have the possibility of identifying an illness in its early stage, making it easier to treat it.
