Inspiration

We wanted to make something that would allows us to have fun while building it as well as allowing us to develop a type of application different from what all of us are used to work on. Therefore we end up choosing to develop a game.

Not quite sure what exact game we wanted to build, we knew we wanted to make it multiplayer (either by allowing two players playing simultaneously in the same machine, or online in two different machines).

What it does

A game where two of Wayfair's logistic trucks exchange "packages" between them. Each player is a truck and is responsible to catch those packages, otherwise we'll have damaged furniture and the player looses one live.

How we built it

We built it using Phaser.js. A javascript framework for building graphic applications (mainly games)

Challenges we ran into

The fact that we did not had at the begging of the hackathon a clear idea of what the game would be, dragged us a bit, since we kept changing the game idea (somehow it slowly changed from being a Spaceships game to Wayfair Trucks exchanging pieces of furniture!). But at the same time the creative processes behind these ideas were one of the funniest parts of our hackathon.

Also the fact that none of us had any real experience with phaser.js framework might have slowed us down a bit.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact that we were able to submit a working game, with very simple code, that can be easily scalable for other features, such as online playing.

What we learned

It was a good experience for all of us to get a small sense of how to develop (even if stupidly simple) videogames. Maybe it could be the beginning of a nice hobby...

What's next for WayImpact The Game

Adding the possibility to play online in two different machines as well as port it to a mobile application.

Anyway the game is available on github, for any awesome ideas from the community!
