With the use of service animals, walking sticks, and other assistive technologies, people with physical impairments have made significant strides in navigating their environments. Today, Way Guide introduces a new innovation: a haptic feedback system that allows users to feel vibrations alerting them when they are close to an object. This groundbreaking solution empowers users to walk independently, without the need for a cane or service animal, providing greater freedom, confidence, and safety. Our project, Way Guide, solves this using camera-based object detection and haptic feedback. Instead of relying on canes or guide dogs, Way Guide sees the environment using a smartphone camera, and translates danger into touch — using vibration alerts whenever an obstacle is nearby.
