Inspiration

Public wayfinding around the world in spaces witj large crowds that encourages exploration.

What it does

Creates and displays a system of paths to various landmarks and destinations overlayed on the floor in public spaces that can be accessed from multiple locations via co-located AR to passively guide users and allow them to explore rather than navigate from point A to point B.

How we built it

Monday 2/6 - Day 1 - Discover/Define: The objective of this day would be to define what we are building and who we building it for. Product Vision and Target Users essentially. We can all come up with different versions of this in our own time and during the meeting we can go figure out to pick one or up come up with a combined vision. This will help us ideate on Day 2.

Tuesday 3/6 - Day 2 - Ideate/Sketch : The objective of Day 2 is to get a bunch of ideas out. Whatever medium is best for you. You can write down post it ideas or make little sketches. We can all come up with 5 proposals each in line with the vision from Day 1 and then use the time during the call to discuss them!

Wednesday 4/6 - Day 3 - DECIDE : This is probably the most pivotal day. We each pick 1 concept from the 5 we sketched on Day 2 and pitch it as a full concept to the rest of the team! Once each team member has pitched their idea, we can have a voting system to pick the best one to prototype and divide up the work!

Thursday 5/6 to Sunday 8/6 - Day 4 - Prototype: Rather than prototype our concept in one day I propose we use the next 4 days to build our project. This can be done in our own time separately as designers and developers. For example: Designers use this time to build user experiences and AR interface designs. Developers use this time to get the background tech working!

Monday 9/6 - Day 5 - TEST : This is the in-person day at AWE. For those who can make it to Long Beach, we can use this day to test out the finished product, make any changes and prepare for the final presentation.

Tuesday 10/6 : Presentation time!

Challenges we ran into

Getting co-location to work well and organizing times to meet up and work together between 3 time zones.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting something done with only half a team and about week to work with while balancing travel and personal responsibilities

What we learned

Designers learned about GIS-based development. Developers learnt about User Experience Flows.

What's next for WayfindAR

We want to conintue building this as a system that can be scaled across various types of public spaces and AR glasses.
