Inspiration

This past summer, my father and I decided to visit Iran for two months. While we were there, I decided to go on a week-long trip to Kish, an island in the Persian Gulf. When my cousins and I were looking into airfares and hotel fees, we noticed that the prices were pretty expensive. Then, my father recommended we go through a group traveling agency. The group traveling agency we went through took charge of everything and booked roundtrip flights and hotel lodging for my cousins and I, along with approximately 15 other people, all for less.
This concept of traveling with complete strangers seemed quite foreign to me prior to my vacation in Iran and inspired us to create an interface that would allow for social interaction people who want to explore the world, without having to check their wallets every other second.

What it does

Wayfarer brings together travelers who have a common destination, so that they can socialize, interact, and most importantly, save money by booking flights and hotels as a group.

How we built it

The front-end was built using HTML and CSS, with the functionality being implemented in jquery. The back-end was built using Python with the help of Amadeus's Flight APIs and Hotel Shopping APIs.

Challenges we ran into

In the back-end development, some challenges were getting accustomed to using the APIs, learning to properly read and parse through the data it provides, and applying user input to the functions defined in the back-end code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the design and interface of our WebApp and the use of Amadeus's API

What we learned

We learned how to correctly implement APIs into our code, became more accustomed to jquery and front-end development as a whole, and we gained valuable experience in dividing up tasks and working efficiently toward a common goal.

What's next for Wayfarer

In the future, we'd like to expand our idea into practical application for travelers and reach out to airlines, hotels, and hopefully other modes of transportation such as trains and busses.
