InspirationWhen I first started exploring health and lifestyle tracking apps like Flo and Whoop, I was struck by how much these tools could reveal about people’s bodies, energy, and routines—but I noticed something was missing. Most apps focus on metrics, goals, or rigid patterns, and they often cater to specific populations or needs. What I didn’t see was a space that allowed anyone—regardless of background, lifestyle, or rhythms—to intimately track and understand their moods, energy levels, and overall wellbeing in a way that is personal, nuanced, and flexible.

This realization became the inspiration for Wave: an app designed to be less about rules and more about listening to the self. Wave is a companion for the general public, offering a gentle yet powerful way to capture daily moods, energy, and intake patterns—be it food, sleep, exercise, or even mental stimuli. The goal is to help users notice patterns, discover their unique quirks, and understand the subtle connections between habits, emotions, and energy. Wave isn’t about standardizing the experience or fitting people into one-size-fits-all metrics. It’s about creating space for self-discovery—an electronic journal that respects individuality and provides actionable insights. Through thoughtful design and intelligent visualization, Wave allows users to see trends over time, identify triggers or boosts, and make more informed, self-compassionate decisions. The vision is simple but profound: to help people live happier, more fulfilled, and optimized lives, guided by data that is deeply personal and reflective, not prescriptive. By combining empathy-driven design with meaningful data capture, Wave becomes a tool for reflection, self-awareness, and empowerment—helping users understand themselves in ways that were previously intangible. I imagine Wave as a digital space where people can truly listen to themselves, track their experiences with nuance, and ultimately discover what makes them thrive. It’s a space for curiosity, insight, and growth, where the everyday ebbs and flows of life are captured and translated into understanding and guidance for living better.

What it does Wave is a personal wellbeing companion that allows users to track their moods, energy levels, and daily intake habits—from meals and hydration to exercise, sleep, and mental load. Unlike traditional tracking apps, Wave prioritizes personalized, nuanced experiences, capturing the subtleties of daily life and helping users understand patterns in their energy and emotional state. It’s a tool for self-discovery, reflection, and making informed choices to live happier, more fulfilled lives. How we built it Wave was designed with human-centered principles at its core. We combined intuitive interfaces with visualizations that make complex patterns simple to understand. Using Figma and Framer, we prototyped flows that let users quickly log moods, energy, and intake in ways that feel natural and flexible. Feedback loops were built in to allow users to see correlations between activities and emotional or energy states over time.
