Inspiration: Our inspiration came from everyday student life. We see our friends, classmates, and even ourselves struggling with the same things over and over again, and we really wanted to create something that would be helpful.
What it does: Our website gives students a place to relieve stress, find motivation, feel seen, and build a sense of community.
How we built it: We built it using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, with the help of AI tools like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
Challenges we ran into: Some challenges we ran into were bugs, especially because most of our group is not very advanced in coding. We had a hard time figuring out and fixing those bugs, so that was our biggest challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We’re very proud of the aesthetics of our website, the way it looks, how functional it is, and how straightforward and reliable it is for students. We really feel like it can make a big change for a lot of people.
What we learned: We learned a lot about the basics of coding, what to use, how to use it, and how to run it. I feel like we were only used to coding in a classroom setting, where we just listened to what the professor said, but this gave us a much more creative outlet.
What's next for Waves of hope: What’s next for Waves of Hope is hopefully making it public and helping students get the support they need and deserve. Being in university or college is a very stressful time, and it can be really hard for some people to reach out for help. This is a way where it stays private enough that nobody has to know, but students can still have a community and a place to reach out when they need support.
