Inspiration

The idea for WattWise came from a desire to make sustainability more engaging and rewarding. During the hackathon, I recognized that while many people care about the environment, they often lack tangible motivation to change daily habits. We wanted to build something that combines behavior change with immediate rewards — like a fitness app, but for energy use.

What it does

WattWise is a gamified web platform built to incentivize sustainable behavior. It rewards users with points for reducing electricity consumption and participating in eco-friendly activities. These points can be redeemed for real-world perks like coupons or gift cards

How I built it

I developed WattWise using:

Frontend: React.js with Tailwind CSS for fast and responsive UI

Hosting: Netlify for quick deployment

Gamification Logic: A points system tied to user-reported or IoT-verified actions

Incentives Page: A dynamic system showcasing available rewards

Challenges I ran into

Data Verification: Ensuring reported energy savings are accurate

User Engagement: Designing the rewards system to keep users consistently motivated

Time Constraints: Balancing feature scope with the hackathon deadline

Built a fully functional platform in a short time during the hackathon.

What I learned

WattWise made me realize that tech can drive real-world impact when it's built around human behavior. I am excited to keep improving it with deeper integrations (like smart meter APIs) and expand the reward ecosystem.
