Inspiration
We noticed that many households spend more money on utilities than necessary. Most people do not have the time to analyze their electricity, water, and gas usage. We created Wattson to make saving money and resources easier.
What it does
Wattson is an AI-powered platform that helps households, utility companies, and city planners save resources. It analyzes utility usage and provides personalized recommendations to reduce costs. It also helps utility providers manage demand and cities plan infrastructure improvements.
How we built it
We built Wattson as an interactive web application with a modern, mobile-friendly design. We created separate dashboards for households, utility providers, and city planners. We used sample utility data, interactive charts, and simulated AI analysis to demonstrate its features.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was combining electricity, water, and gas information into one platform. We also had to design different features for three types of users while keeping the app simple. Another challenge was creating realistic data and accurate savings calculations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a working prototype with three different user experiences. We developed features such as Grid Sync, personalized savings recommendations, and interactive city planning tools. We are proud that Wattson connects financial savings with environmental sustainability.
What we learned
We learned how technology can help reduce unnecessary resource consumption. We also discovered the importance of making complicated information simple and understandable. Most importantly, we learned how to develop a solution that benefits households and entire communities.
What's next for Wattson
We plan to partner with Dominion Energy, Richmond Gas Works, and Henrico Utilities to explore real utility-data connections. We hope to meet the necessary requirements and test Wattson with households in Richmond. Eventually, we want to improve our AI automation and expand Wattson across Virginia.
