Inspiration
A sudden thought struck us: “What if saving water was as fun as playing a game?” Water scarcity is real, but learning about conservation and raising environmental awareness doesn’t have to be boring. That’s how WaterMon was born, designed for students and young learners. By making water conservation enjoyable, we aim to instill sustainable habits early, ensuring a future where every drop counts.
What it does
WaterMon is an interactive platform designed to educate and empower individuals to take action on water conservation. In this gamified experience, users progress through engaging stages, completing challenges and answering questions related to water, unlocking new levels as they learn fun and essential facts. The story unfolds as you, an adventurer, journey to the world of WaterMon in search of the key to save your world. However, WaterMon is facing a devastating drought, and the land is on the brink of collapse. To unlock the key, you must first restore the flow of water to their world. As you progress, you'll gain crucial knowledge about water conservation, directly impacting both the fate of WaterMon and your own world, all while inspiring real-world change through the choices you make.
How we built it
For WaterMon, we used JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to build the platform. These technologies allowed us to create an interactive and engaging experience while ensuring the website is user-friendly and accessible.
Challenges we ran into
There were several challenges we experienced in the process, including acquiring new technologies and tools from scratch. As a group, we had to learn Java Script to develop the platform. There was a learning curve, and time management was another challenge that we had to contend with. Juggling tight deadlines and learning new skills tested our task balancing abilities, but our determination and teamwork saw us overcome these challenges to turn WaterMon into a reality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time. From developing an engaging and interactive platform to designing a fun user experience, we’ve created something that not only educates but also motivates users to take action. We’ve successfully gamified water conservation, making it both fun and impactful.
What we learned
We learned a lot of things in this project, especially how to use Java Script and create a web platform. We developed our problem-solving and debugging skills while dealing with technical problems. We also discovered how to manage our time more effectively, especially with tight deadlines. Working as a team taught us how to cooperate and be accommodating of different ideas. Apart from that, we also got to know much more about water conservation and how little things can contribute to a great deal of assistance for the environment. This project helped us grow technically as well as a team.
What's next for WaterMon World
Looking ahead, we plan to refine the platform, adding more gamified stages, personalized water-saving tips, and interactive features. We aim to partner with educational organizations or NGOs to expand WaterMon's reach, helping even more people understand the importance of water conservation and how their choices can make a difference.
