The Waterfall template provides a tried and trusted way of organizing a project into sequential steps. It is often used in software development, or for any project that can benefit from a strict, linear process that emphasizes milestones and clear deliverables.
Use the template to add your requirements to the five cards representing the project's phases: Requirements, Design, Implementation, Verification, Maintenance.
Some of the advantages of this template:
- Simple and easy to understand and use
- Easy to manage due to the rigidity of the model. Each phase has specific deliverables and a review process.
- Phases are processed and completed one at a time.
- Works well for smaller projects where requirements are very well understood.
- Clearly defined stages.
- Well understood milestones.
- Easy to arrange tasks.
- Process and results are well documented.
The text in the template can be replaced with your project's information. In the video example, we show how to use this template for a banking software development project.
The "try it out link" here also features a zip file of a backup of the template, so you can quickly Restore it for your whiteboard.
