Water Waste is a website dedicated to informing people about the amount of water we waste through graphs, statistics, and trivia! The goal is to get more people educated and save more water.
Inspiration - The first thing that came to my mind after I heard the project theme was water pollution because of how much of a problem it is globally. I decided to try to shine some light on the situation and came up with the idea of Water Waste.
What it does - Water Waste informs people about how much water the average American wastes through statistics and graphs. It also has a section dedicated to telling people how they can save water themselves and has trivia for users to test their knowledge.
How I built it - Water Waste was built through HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into - One of our biggest challenges was trying to figure out how to code the quiz. Originally, I wanted a slideshow format, to go from question to question. That didn't work, so I thought about programming the quiz in Python and embedding it within our trivia webpage. However, I came up with an alternate solution that could be implemented through JavaScript, so I just used that instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - I'm proud of my UI because I think it looks quite elegant.
What we learned - I learned a lot about how much water is wasted. Some of the facts, I didn't know myself, and it was quite alarming how much we waste. On top of that, I figured out how to make an animated modal effectively using CSS.
What's next for Water Waste - I might add more games or make the website more interactive!
