Just Keep Sipping!

Inspiration

When we first arrived at Bitcamp, one of our members mentioned that she'd been trying to drink more water, but kept forgetting. Forgetting to drink water is a pretty common occurrence--and anyone who's had a dehydration-induced headache can concur that it's not fun!--so we decided to make a fun, gamified webpage to remind us to stay hydrated!

What it does

Enter the amount of glasses you drink each day. Your total number of glasses consumed counts towards your total point score--and as you progressively get more points, you unlock more fish and other aquatic accessories for your ocean! Watch as your ocean's happiness meter goes up!

How we built it

We built the webpage entirely with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, used assets from itch.io. Apart from the assets, we also designed much of the art you see on our own! Together, we've crafted a simple yet charming webpage.

Challenges we ran into

Most of us had other responsibilities this weekend--work, large projects for classes, other prior commitments--so we knew we wouldn't have the same amount of time to really lock in on this project; simplicity was key, and we had to scrap some of the functionality ideas we'd had in the beginning as they were too ambitious for us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For some of us, this is our first project utilizing JS/HTML/CSS that we've made outside a classroom setting, as well as our first hackathon! Just creating something that works and looks nice together was a great accomplishment for us all, and it was great learning how to work as a web dev team!

What we learned

Going into Bitcamp, we all knew how to make designs, and very beginner JS/HTML/CSS. Coming out of the hackathon, we've definitely leveled up our web dev knowledge, and gotten a better understanding of how to build a simple webpage!

What's next for Just Keep Sipping

Just Keep Sipping probably won't get updated in the future, but our knowledge and skillset to make pages like our water tracker webpage or better will only grow! This project was a stepping stone for us to launch our web development skills to new heights!
