Inspiration
Healthcare access is often confusing and time-consuming, especially when patients don’t know which specialist to consult for their symptoms. This inspired us to build Revon, an AI-powered web application that predicts possible diseases from given symptoms and connects users to the right medical specialists nearby.
What it does
How to integrate machine learning models for symptom-to-disease prediction.
Improving user experience (UX) by presenting medical results in a clear, friendly interface.
Deploying full-stack web applications using cloud platforms like Vercel.
Handling real-world challenges in data cleaning and medical dataset preparation.
How we built it
Designed the frontend with React.js and Tailwind CSS for a modern UI.
Trained and integrated AI/ML models in Python (scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy).
Built the backend with Express.js and Node.js to connect the ML model with the frontend.
Used MongoDB as the database to store user queries, disease predictions, and specialist details.
Deployed the app on Vercel, ensuring scalability and fast performance.
Challenges we ran into
Cleaning and preparing a reliable medical dataset.
Mapping symptoms to multiple diseases with overlapping indicators.
Ensuring results are accurate, trustworthy, and user-friendly.
Deploying AI models efficiently with limited computing resources.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully built a functional AI-powered symptom-to-disease prediction app that provides reliable health insights.
Integrated a specialist recommendation system that shows relevant doctors in Tamil Nadu along with their details.
Designed and deployed the app on Vercel with a clean, modern, and responsive UI.
Overcame challenges in dataset preprocessing and implementing the disease prediction model with accuracy.
Received positive feedback for combining AI with real-world healthcare needs.
What we learned
Gained experience in data preprocessing, model training, and evaluation for healthcare datasets.
Learned how to design an effective user flow for symptom input, prediction, and specialist recommendation.
Improved knowledge of React.js, Node.js, and MongoDB for building full-stack applications.
Explored deployment best practices with Vercel and cloud integration.
Understood the importance of accuracy, ethics, and responsibility when developing healthcare-related AI applications.
What's next for Revon
Expanding the specialist database to cover all states in India, not just Tamil Nadu.
Enhancing the AI model with deep learning techniques for improved accuracy.
Adding multi-language support (Tamil, Hindi, etc.) for wider accessibility.
Integrating a real-time chat feature where users can connect with verified doctors.
Exploring opportunities for collaboration with healthcare providers to make Revon a trusted tool in medical assistance.
