What's next for Water Health Signal
Overview
Water Health Signal is a small, explainable proof-of-concept for OneAquaHealth’s resilience and AI-supported assessment themes. It converts a few water-quality observations into a transparent community-health risk signal and suggests human-review actions.
Problem
Citizen and field observations can be difficult to interpret quickly. Communities need an understandable way to spot potential concerns without treating an automated score as a diagnosis or an official public-health decision.
Prototype
The local Python prototype accepts turbidity (NTU), nitrate (mg/L), and whether coliforms were detected. It calculates a bounded score, labels the result low/moderate/high, and returns level-appropriate next steps. The included demo produces a score of 5.9 (high), with “boil-water advisory candidate” and “escalate to authorities” actions.
Human in the loop
The output is deliberately advisory: it supports validation, follow-up sampling, and escalation to qualified authorities. It does not replace laboratory confirmation, professional assessment, or official advisories.
Next steps
A fuller implementation could add citizen-science intake, validation checks, trend and map views, explainable alerts, and integrations with environmental and health data using appropriate interoperability standards.
