Inspiration

Finding something good to watch across multiple streaming platforms can be frustrating. Users often spend more time browsing than actually watching. I built WatchWise TV to make discovering TV series and entertainment simpler, faster, and more enjoyable.

What it does

WatchWise TV is a streaming discovery dashboard that helps users explore trending TV series, review ratings and descriptions, search for entertainment, save favorites, and discover trailers. It uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to retrieve trending series and presents the information through a modern, responsive interface with a dark theme and purple accents.

How I built it

I developed the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a Node.js and Express backend. The backend provides API endpoints for the catalogue, trending series, trailer lookups, and recommendations. I integrated TMDB for live trending data and deployed the application using Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was connecting the frontend and backend reliably in a serverless deployment. I also worked on handling API errors, validating series IDs, and improving the trailer experience when TMDB does not list a video for a particular series. These challenges helped me understand API integration, debugging, deployment configuration, and graceful error handling.

What I learned

This project strengthened my understanding of REST APIs, asynchronous JavaScript, backend routing, environment variables, serverless deployment, and responsive UI development. I also learned the importance of testing edge cases and providing useful alternatives when external services do not return the expected data.

What's next

I plan to improve trailer discovery, add more personalized recommendations, refine the user experience, and expand the discovery features while keeping the interface fast and easy to use.

I contributed to the development of WatchWise TV, an entertainment discovery web application. I worked on frontend development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, backend API integration using Node.js and Express.js, and integration with the TMDB API to display trending TV series. I also worked on trailer discovery, error handling, debugging, and deployment through Vercel. This project helped me strengthen my full-stack development skills and learn how to build, test, and deploy a web application.

I contributed to the development and improvement of WatchWise TV by focusing on application testing, user experience, and feature validation. I helped review the interface, test content discovery and trending series features, identify usability issues, and verify the application's behavior. I also collaborated with the team to improve the overall presentation and reliability of the project. Through this project, I gained practical experience in web application development, testing, teamwork, and problem-solving.
