Inspiration

Sailors and Marines make port calls everywhere in the world. Although port calls are all about experiencing new and exciting cultures, it is still important to keep yourself safe in foreign lands. This app is a proof of concept idea primarily for the DC area.

How it works

It takes your location from time to time and compares your location with crime reports in the area.

Challenges I ran into

The dataset provided did not have lat/long coordinates so I needed to change large amounts of street addresses to gps coordinates.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

It compiles!

What I learned

Dealing with large amounts of data requires a concrete plan for integration into Android apps.

What's next for Watchdog

Support for other cities.
