Inspiration
I was thirsty on the way here, and I was thinking about how bad it would be if the world were to run out of water tomorrow. We would be completely unprepared for something like that, so we have to take every effort we can to conserve what we have.
What it does
My website has three pages: a home page that has two countdowns to emphasize how much water we use and how close we are to running out of water, a calculator to see how much water you use in a day, and a calculator to see how much water you could save by making minor adjustments to your daily routine.
How we built it
I built it using HTML/CSS to build the basic website itself, and I used JavaScript to write the calculations necessary for my calculators.
Challenges we ran into
I had almost no experience with the syntax of CSS, so I had to learn it, but I'm glad I did.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I think I formatted my website decently well for my first time using CSS. I also think my JavaScript calculators work well.
What we learned
I learned the syntax of CSS and refined my knowledge of HTML and JS.
What's next for Watch Your Water
I want to gamify Watch Your Water to get users hooked on saving water. Adding a leaderboard and perhaps prizes (in water bottles proportional to the amount they saved) would make it a lot more fun to save water. I also think that this would make saving water become a habit, as these tactics can also be used to establish good habits.
