Inspiration

I was inspired by my own messy browser habits with a multitude of chrome tabs open at once, making it hard to stay focused on a task. I figured that if I was struggling with this other people are probably too. And that's when I decided to build TabCtrl to help manage the tab crisis.

What it does

Tab control is a chrome extension that uses AI to help users manage and organize the tabs effectively. It offers a clean UI and features like a Focus Mode to cut down on distractions.

How I built it

I built a TabCtrl as a Chrome extension using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

For the majority of the project, I was unable to get the AI response to be formatted properly. I struggled with making sure that the AI would respond in a way that I could post the information and went through multiple hours of just not being able to get a response back from the API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of creating a functional and user-friendly tool to solve an actual problem. The AI-powered tab organization works very well, and Focus Mode makes notable difference on how productive I was, even during development.

What I learned

I gained hands-on experience with building Chrome extensions, handling browser APIs, and incorporating AI for practical UX improvements. I also learned how to balance functionality and simplicity in UI design.

What's next for TabCtrl

We plan to refine the AI categorization, add tab session saving and syncing across devices, and possibly launch on the Chrome Web Store. Long term, we want to support other browsers and bring in deeper integrations with tools like Notion or Google Docs.
