Inspiration
Every item we waste has an impact—from the resources used to create it to the pollution it leaves behind. By reducing waste, reusing what we can, and recycling properly, we cut down on landfill overflow, conserve energy, and protect our planet’s future. Small changes add up, and with the right tools, making sustainable choices becomes effortless. Together, we can make a big difference in everyday actions! By working with the City of Tempe’s Sustainability and Resiliency Office as well as researching Environmental Sustainability through the Tempe MYAC, we’ve seen how youth, especially in AZ, are impacted by global warming. With this knowledge, we wanted to create an app to help combat climate change for our and future generations.
What it does
Our app allows users to upload pictures and easily learn how to recycle them, and how to upcycle them. By providing instant access to recycling and upcycling information, our app empowers you to make smarter choices every day.
How we built it
We built an android app using Android Studio, Kotlin, Gradle, and utilized APIs from Hugging Face and Open AI
What's next for WasteWatchers
Next we hope to publish our app on the Google Play store, for the world to enjoy!
