Inspiration
The idea came from seeing how much good food goes to waste in school canteens every single day, while so many families nearby struggle to get meals. We wanted to build something simple that connects this leftover food with the people who actually need it.
What it does
WasteRadar AI is a smart tracking dashboard for school canteens. Canteen managers can quickly type in how much leftover food they have (like 15 kg). The app tracks the freshness of the food and uses a smart model to predict busy days based on things like heavy rain or sports events, even telling the manager exactly how much less food to cook the next day to stop waste before it happens.
How we built it
First, we designed the initial layout and structure in Figma to map out our ideas. Then, we used Lovable to fully build, refine, and launch the interactive live interface, making it even more dynamic and user-friendly than the original design., we used it as our exact blueprint to develop the live interactive interface inside Lovable. For the smart predictions, we simulated a Random Forest model that hits a 94.2% accuracy rate to look at past trends and student attendance.
Challenges we faced
The hardest part was making sure the dashboard stays super simple for a canteen manager to use while handling complex background data. We had to do a lot of tweaking to make sure the live inputs and redistribution charts look clean, readable, and easy to understand in a few seconds.
What we learned
We learned how helpful simple data can be when fighting food waste. By tracking small everyday things like weather and school schedules, a basic app can make a huge difference in saving food and helping local families.
