Inspiration

We received our inspiration from nearby waste banks and how they benefit the world in not only the proper disposal of waste but also giving people incentives of cash to receive by donating their waste. Another thing that helped inspire us to make this project is how Indonesia is currently the second largest producer of plastic waste in the world

What it does

Our project incentivizes waste collection by rewarding people with benefits based on the amount they donate to waste banks (funded by the ongoing government program). Additionally, we aim to simplify waste donation by creating convenient waste collection hotspots, therefore people don't need to cover a long distance to donate their waste

How we built it

Our first step in building the project was discussing how the project would work, the benefits the app would bring and the core features that our application would have. After that discussion we created a more concrete form of our project using figma to design how the application would look, and how users would navigate around the app. Basing it on our figma design, we created our application using Next.js framework.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we ran into included how exhausting participating and working on the project would be both mentally and physically. As this is also our first time participating in an offline/on-site 36 hour hackathon we couldn't create an exact schedule where we would still make meaningful progress and complete the project while also getting enough rest to optimally work on the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment we're proud of is completing the challenge on time. With the challenges we ran into as well as our inexperience in participating in hackathon, we are proud of actually finishing the challenge and submitting an application with a quality we are satisfied with

What we learned

We learned how to cooperate with each other within a team environment. Another lesson we learned was how to work together to complete an intensive and time-sensitive task by having meaningful discussions and effective communication.

What's next for WasteNot

We would like to collaborate with a Non-governmental organization (NGO) and various other non-profit organizations to help spread awareness about waste landfill, and aims to improve the cleanliness of Indonesia and aims to make Indonesia a beautiful and clean country.
