Inspiration
What it does
How we built it## INSPIRATION
We got the idea because we saw two big problems. First, recycling is too hard for most people. It's tough to find trusted buyers for old plastic and paper, so this stuff ends up as trash. Second, when people report roadside garbage, nothing happens fast. Other apps take many days to clean it up. Our inspiration was to make a new app that is easy, trustworthy, and fast. We wanted to make cleaning and recycling fun by giving rewards. Wastella's main goal is to clean up reported garbage in just 1 to 2 hours, not days.
What it does
Wastella is a simple, eco-friendly app that helps people in two main ways. Everything in the app is green to show it's about the environment.
- Recycling Market: You can easily sell your materials or buy recycled things. We only allow "Trusted" vendors who have a green badge and a certificate. This makes sure selling and buying are safe and clear.
- Clean-Up Flow: Our main button says: "Spot Garbage? Snap & Clean!" The app opens the camera right away, figures out your location, and sees what kind of trash it is. The best part is our promise: we get the garbage picked up in 1 to 2 hours. After you help 10 times, we give you a special, personalized reward.
How we built it
We built Wastella quickly and easily by getting help from a special tool. We explained everything about our app—how we wanted it to look, the two main parts, the green color, and our promise to clean up in 1–2 hours—to the Base44 website. Base44 helped us:
- Design the App: It helped us plan the clean look and the easy navigation tabs (like Recycle and Clean & Reward).
- Plan the Special Features: It helped us figure out how to use the phone's camera and location, and how to use special AI tools to make sure people don't report fake trash spots.
- Create the Fast System: It helped us design a system where clean-up teams get a very fast alert right after someone reports garbage, so they can rush out and keep our 1–2 hour promise.
Challenges we ran into
We faced a few difficult problems while making this app:
- Making the 1–2 Hour Promise Real: Our biggest problem was making sure we could actually clean up the garbage in just 1 or 2 hours. Other apps take much longer. We had to design a very fast alert system to tell the clean-up crews immediately when a new spot was reported.
- Stopping Fake Reports: Some people might try to post old or fake pictures of trash. It was hard to add a special AI tool to check every picture and location instantly without making the app slow. This tool is important to make sure we don't waste time and money on fake clean-up missions.
- Finding Real Trusted Sellers: We had to make strict rules for who gets the "Trusted" green badge in the marketplace. The challenge was making sure we only allowed truly good, certified vendors who help the environment, so our users can always trust the platform.
