Inspiration: E-waste is Newfoundland's fastest-growing municipal waste stream, with substantial volumes disposed of directly at the Robin Hood Bay landfill at St. John's City, NL, Canada. Beyond filling landfill capacity, unhandled electronics result in toxic chemical leaching into local soil and water.

What it does? The wasteless mobile app connects residents, local recycling hubs, and waste logistics operators into a single platform across the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Canada.

How we built it: Developed and deployed as a responsive web app using Netlify and Bolt for live production access during the ideathon.

Challenges we ran into: 1. No prior technical and theoretical knowledge of mobile app building or deploying in app stores. 3. Lack of proper in-person guidance in each step of the project. 4. No prior idea about the long weeks for app approval by app stores. 5. Unaware about the cost charges by different app stores.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: Successfully built and hosted a fully functional application during the hackathon event.

What we learned: 1. Gained a deeper understanding of local municipal waste bottlenecks at Robin Hood Bay and regional Avalon recycling networks. 2. Understand the mobile app building process and how it operates in the real world.

What's next for Wasteless: Make a fully functioning mobile app and dedicated website available for the public.
