♻️ WasteEx – Global Waste Exchange Platform

💡 Inspiration
We were inspired by a simple yet powerful idea—waste doesn’t have to be wasted. Industrial by-products and leftover materials often end up as pollution, even when they hold value. We saw an opportunity to connect companies generating waste with those that could reuse it, fostering a real-time, transparent, and sustainable ecosystem.
🌍 What it does
WasteEx is a full-stack platform that allows:
- 🌐 Companies to list and browse available waste materials.
- 💬 Real-time negotiation chat between buyers and sellers.
- 📦 Inventory management for industries handling diverse waste streams.
- 🤝 Smart contract–style deal management (simulated for now due to gas costs).
- 🧠 Buyer/seller matching suggestions based on waste type and industry.
- 📝 Contract creation and e-signing system.
- 🚚 Shipment tracking and logistics module.
- 💸 Secure payment flow with delivery confirmation & release system.
🛠️ How we built it
- Frontend: React + TypeScript + TailwindCSS
- Backend: Node.js + Express.js
- Database: MongoDB + Mongoose
- Realtime: Socket.IO for chat and message delivery
- Media Handling: Cloudinary for image uploads
- Authentication: JWT-based access control
- AI Recommender: Internal waste type matcher
- Smart Contracts: Simulated logic using testnet (due to gas costs)
🧱 Challenges we ran into
- Implementing complex chat flows with offers, file types, read receipts.
- Maintaining clarity between waste listings and material requests.
- Managing user roles, permissions, and secure access.
- Integrating all modules—negotiation, logistics, payments—smoothly.
- Simulating blockchain logic without deploying to mainnet.
