Inspiration Food banks often struggle with managing their inventory efficiently, leading to food waste. This app aims to address this issue by using AI to streamline the inventory management process.
What it does "Waste Not, Want Not" allows food banks to update their inventory by taking a photo. The AI analyzes the image and updates the inventory accordingly. Users can then receive boxes of food based on the updated inventory, reducing waste and ensuring that surplus food reaches those in need.
How we built it The app was built using Figma for the UI design and integrating AI algorithms for image analysis. The backend was developed using a combination of languages and frameworks suited for handling image processing and database management.
Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges was developing the AI algorithms to accurately analyze the images and update the inventory accordingly. Ensuring the app's user-friendliness and scalability were also challenging aspects of the development process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud to have developed a functional prototype of the app that demonstrates the potential to significantly reduce food waste in food banks. The integration of AI technology into the inventory management process is a major accomplishment for us.
What we learned Through developing this app, we gained valuable insights into AI integration in real-world applications, as well as the complexities of developing user-friendly interfaces for such systems. We also learned about the challenges faced by food banks in managing their inventory and the impact of food waste on communities.
What's next for Waste Not, Want Not (WNWN) Moving forward, we plan to further refine the app based on user feedback and conduct more extensive testing to ensure its effectiveness and reliability. We also aim to explore additional features, such as predictive analytics for inventory management, to enhance the app's capabilities and impact.
